Bridget Bishop and Susannah Martin had been assused of wichcraft shortly after their husbands had died and willed them property borderd theirs.
Though Bishop and Martin had both been acquitted of these early accsations, theywere ever afterward plagued by the taunts of childern and the slurs of neighbors who persisted in calling them "witch." By 1692 they were old ,cranky, and mistustful of magistrater. they fit the Myra Gulch, Wicked of the West image portrayed on th Wizard of Oz.
